Evelyn Whelton, Chair
MWV Housing Coalition
Dear Community Members:

Welcome to the Mt. Washington Valley Housing Coalition website. Our mission is to improve the environment for building an adequate supply of affordable, diverse housing units for all who live and work in the greater Mount Washington Valley. Our objectives are to:

  • Increase awareness of needs & economic benefits of Workforce Housing
  • Provide desired zoning and planning resources
  • Support appropriate projects as they relate to workforce housing
  • Ensure long term affordability of workforce housing
There are many ways we, as a community, can prepare for our future to ensure we are fostering a healthy and economically sustainable region that includes a diverse workforce. While doing so, we can also maintain the rural character we have come to cherish.
After meeting with the community to bring this economic issue to the forefront, the MWVHC spent the next several months gathering data to quantify the affordability isse in Mt. Washington Valley towns. Most importantly, to quantify the impact of housing on local businesses, the MWVHC partnered with the Economic Council to administer and analyze a region-wide employer survey in September of 2011. The links below will bring you to this information, which is presently in draft form.

The MWVHC is in the process of publishing a
HOUSING MATTERS RESOURCE BOOKLET that will provide municipalities with the regional analysis presented below, as well data presented by individual municipality which can be used to help inform planning and zoning decision.

While the importance of workforc housing cannot be overstate, its solutions are complex and will require the support and involvement of the business community, government, and citizens. The MWVHC welcomes your involvlement and feedback.
